CJ Hughes is a freehand lettering artist that gravitates towards chalk lettering art and interior murals. Over the last six years CJ has developed branding, commercials, print advertising and mural art for some of the biggest companies in the United States. He designed the exterior art for Hard Rock Cafe’s first USA based food truck and has worked on lettering and mural projects for Jim Beam Suntory, Johnston & Murphy, BBC America, Sterno, Rolling Stone Country, KFC, Madison Square Garden & Amazon among others.
CJ’s lettering work can be seen in several establishments in Chelsea Market as well as at several corporate headquarters across Manhattan. In the past few years he’s traveled to over 10 states installing large scale murals including a few 20′ tall ones at SLS Casino in Vegas and a 30′ long rendering of a Jim Beam white label bottle that graces the wall of Jim Beam Distillery in Kentucky.
When he’s not working with corporate clients or hustling the streets of Manhattan in search of another wall to letter you can find CJ at various art markets and parks selling stencil and stamp art under his alias HACK. He’s been known to leave free art sitting on street corners or hanging in coffee shop windows. He also enjoys holding on the spot alley gallery exhibitions and handing out free art to unsuspecting tourists.
