My paintings are a way for me to find home. For me, home is in the history and culture of my native Japan. It is in a surreal enveloping of nature, it is in unexpected courage, and sometimes even transposed with modern aesthetics like pop culture and fashion. Home to me is a mixture of paradoxes, and endless iterations of all those elements. When I paint these things, I’m transported from a chaotic world to a secret place which gives solace by blending past and present, defying trend and run-of-the-mill reasoning.
