Inspirational Mural for Outdoor Office Yard – 2Alas

Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That’s the motto for the residential developers at Vessel. Their objective is to see a community in which people have access to homes that can serve as the launchpad for their dreams. These homes are built for people earning average wages without compromising a high quality product – as often is the case in today’s middle class housing economy.

Vessel partnered with MAC to consult and execute the perfect piece of artwork. The artwork will serve as inspiration for the Vessel team and also reflect the company’s ethos. Working closely with Founder & CEO Neil Rubler, we quickly were able to understand the important characteristics the artwork would need to emphasize. As Neil put it, the artwork needs to communicate that we (the Vessel team) can not let today’s young dreamers down. That despite the challenges the Vessel team may face in developing the homes, they need to be reminded who exactly is counting on them. In two words, the mural must evoke hope and inspiration. It did not take long for our team to recognize the perfect artist for the collaboration.

We worked with 2Alas for this project. Their work consists of bold graphic imagery often containing inspirational portraits that display messages of hope and inspiration. Equally excited by the scope of the project, 2Alas jumped right in to designing the 3 panel mural that would live in the backyard patio of the Vessel townhouse headquarters in midtown Manhattan. The mural can be seen through the glass doors of the main conference area and can be enjoyed up close and personal when in the outdoor area. 2Alas battled through common NY December inclement weather and the result is nothing short of INSPIRING!

Shaina Kasztelan

Shaina Kasztelan is an American artist living and working in Detroit, MI. Kasztelan has exhibited artwork in a variety of settings, from homes to streets to galleries and museums, questioning how art is viewed in different contexts. Her work explores themes such as feminism/identity, internet youth culture and American consumerism. Combining humor, nostalgia and psychedelic subject matter through painting, sculpture and site specific installation, Kasztelan creates a hyper saturated maximalist landscape which is overwhelmingly cute with a rebellious dark side. Utilizing non-traditional art making material, she examines the boundary between high and low art using altered kitsch found objects and displaying them in traditional formats such as paintings on canvas and sculptures on pedestals. The materials she works with are a carefully calculated assortment of used children’s toys sourced from local second hand shops, commercially mass-produced items, synthetic beauty products and heavily printed manufactured fabric. By using these heavily processed materials along with culturally relevant imagery, Kasztelan builds an intensely saturated faux-environment with a fantasy narrative for her audience to explore in their own psyche.

We worked with artist, Persue (aka Bunnykitty) on a private residential commission in Pacific Palisades, CA. This wall sits at the end of a backyard half court & is framed by lush greenery and vines. Our client collects canvases both pop & blue chip art, & wanted the process of developing this mural to involve her sons (and their interests). The boys are all about golf, basketball, Formula 1 racing, baseball etc but not so much the art pieces so far. In regards to their perspective, Persue’s Bunnykitty aesthetic & background in action sports lent well to the commission. The combination also also yields great active & psychedelic results, (which we knew already). As per the kid’s requests, LA Lakers, Dodgers, Tiger Woods and Jordan 1’s are woven into the colorful dreamscape. The Jordans are looking particularly fresh in Kobe/LA colors, done with respect for number 8. Mostly our job on this one was just the fun parts, as both the client & artist were very easy to work with. Would love to do it again, check out the pics after the jump.

JEKS ONE

Graffiti/mural artist JEKS, a pioneering member of Greensboro’s burgeoning street-art scene, has made a name for himself globally with his hyper realistic monochromatic and full color portraits. His portraits of artists and Pop culture icons have become beloved landmarks in the cities where they are installed. The amount of meticulous detail, smooth gradients, emotion and saturation in his pieces set him apart from other artists in the realism field. Between painting his jaw-dropping portraits, technical graffiti burners and showing a relentless hunger to push the envelope, he is on his way to become a well known and sought after name in the public art world.

Brittany Baldwin

Brittany lives, works, and thrives in Queens, NY. She received her MFA from Pratt Institute and her BFA from Adelphi University.

Steven Teller

Steven Teller is a Florida born, ocean-minded street artist who fuels his creative journey following the course his paint directs him. Steven is a multi-disciplined artist specializing in street art and large-scale public murals. He creates an abstract realism that features human figures, animals, and nature in colorful geometric spaces. Chasing projects from wall to wall, he travels with his artwork to different festivals, events, and mural projects across the world. Steven continues that journey today to share his artwork worldwide and to bring a healing moment to everyone along the path of his artistic expression.

Nelson Martin

Graphic artist, illustrator, and geometric designer. The artwork varies in subject matter, ranging from geometric to organic forms, color abstraction, and combining layers of geometry to create dynamic compositions. I studied graphic design at savannah college of art & design in 2005.

Hailey Gaiser

I’m a tillandsia attached to a piece of beach plastic floating down a mountain river headed toward the sea. I was raised by my self-proclaimed hippie-witch pagan mama, along with whom I hop-scotched the wild places of this country. I am wholeheartedly dedicated to the love in my life, which is the art I make and the company I keep. I will defend them to the death. I am attracted to the geometry of ancient symbolism, modern pop iconography, and collective consciousness. My intent with my work is to help inspire the movement from darkness to light. Coco Nella

Coco Nella is a Los Angeles based mural artist. Corinne “Coco” Pulsinelle hails from the East Coast where she grew up fascinated by abandoned buildings and street art. After attending art shcool in NY, she was able to refine her style and scale up her designs into large murals.

Since moving to Los Angeles, Coco’s painting style has caught the attention fo major corporations, interior designers, business owners, and independent clients looking to have custom artwork in their homes. Her illustrations have also been used on packaging, clothing and merchandise in collaboration with various companies.

Coco is commited to staying humble and making as much art as possible. She is always excited to be challenged and take on new projects!

Klughaus Collective

The Klughaus Collective is a NYC artist collective founded by Valentino Mikalef and Victor Fung in 2015. Their interest for Graffiti art, street art and design brought them together with their sights of painting large and small scale murals across NYC. In short time their work expanded from commissioned and public murals across the 5 boroughs to having opportunities to apply paint around the U.S. as well as in Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Croatia, Belgium, Tahiti, France, Canada, Puerto Rico and Aruba.

In recent years the collective expanded to include additional versatile members. This diverse collective is able to take on any mural and design challenge. From murals with total creative freedom to collaborating with clients in making their ideas come to life.
